Name of Course: Child Development Associate Credential (CDA)
The Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) is a nationally recognized entry level credential in the field of Early Childhood Education. It is issued by the Council for Professional Recognition.
CDA candidates are required to demonstrate the ability the meet competency standards as set forth by The Council to support the developmental growth of young children and how children are best understood and supported in the context of family, culture, community and society. Participants will receive a certificate for hours towards the required 120 hours of professional early childhood education training, which address each of the eight CDA Subject Areas. Participants will also receive training to write CDA Competency Standards, and the supporting Resource Collection items that are also a part of the CDA Professional Portfolio. This training is for all individuals who desire to increase their knowledge of how children learn and grow while working towards a nationally recognized early childhood credential.
The CDA is designed for those individuals who are working with young children in all settings. The CDA will prepare you to meet the specific needs of children and work with parents and other adults to nurture children's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth in a child development framework. The CDA is a mark of professionalism and gives assurance to parents and administrators that they have hired a competent individual to work with their children.
Name of Course: SUNY Health and Safety
Caring for children in family day care or group family day care program is a big responsibility. The health and safety of children in care is the highest priority for both the provider and for the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. To ensure that new providers are prepared for this responsibility, they must complete 15 hours of health and safety training approved by the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). This requirement affects anyone applying to become a family or group family day care provider after March 5, 2001. Approved trainings include:
- Health and Safety: Competencies for Becoming a Family or Group Family Day Care Provider, developed by the Early Childhood Education and Training Program in collaboration with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
- New York State Healthy Child Care Course, developed by the American Red Cross in collaboration with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
Name of Course: Adult and Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED
The Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies to help victims of any age: adults (12 years and older) and pediatric (infants and children up to 12 years of age). Students who successfully complete this 5 hour course will receive a certificate for the American Heart Association Adult and Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED valid for two years.
